Get your March mornings moving in a class with the ŻfinMalta company dancers and two of our expert guest teachers. In March 2023 ŻfinMalta is offering two weeks of Open Classes! Week 8 of the ŻfinMalta open class season is led by Zoe Camilleri teaching contemporary accompanied by percussionist Luke Baldacchino. In Week 9, contemporary techniques are further developed by Nico Monaco.

ŻfinMalta provides an open and inclusive space where participants can further develop their professional practice, make connections, and experience life inside Malta’s National Dance Company. 


March 2023 Open Classes 

 

Week 8: Contemporary with Zoe Camilleri accompanied by percussionist Luke Baldacchino 


13th – 15th & 17th March 2023 

Time: 10:00–11.15  


16th March 2023  

Time: 11:30 – 12:45 


Location: ŻfinMalta Studios, Valletta  

 

Zoe Camilleri, is back leading professional contemporary morning classes, this time accompanied by live percussion by Luke Baldacchino! 


These classes will provide an exploration of movement through rhythm, dynamic, release and joy. A mix of guided improvisations and set phrases that will progress in their playfulness, explosiveness and complexity as the week goes along. Accompanying the classes is musician Luke Baldacchino. 

 

 

About Zoe Camilleri 

 

Maltese- based freelance artist and dancer, Zoe Camilleri, started her dance training with the College of Dance. She later went into full- time training at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London. After graduating she returned to her home island to join the first ensemble of dancers of ŻfinMalta, first as an apprentice and for the next three years as a full-time dancer. She has worked with choreographers such as Iván Pérez, Jose Agudo, Mavin Khoo, Athanasia Kanellopoulou, Francesca Tranter, Lucia Piquero, Paolo Mangiola amongst many others.  As a freelancer, she has been involved in various projects both locally and internationally. Her roles include those of performer, teacher, choreographer, movement director and movement coach. She is a regular teacher at ŻfinMalta, teaching company class and leading the contemporary open sessions of Iżfen. Alongside her dancing career, Zoe is also part of the sewing and garment making world. She owns a slow fashion, small business brand called Zowij.Makes. In the past year she has coordinated and made costumes for ŻfinMalta's production Żfin Made, and The New Victorians’ 'Il- Fidwa tal- Bdiewa'. 


 

About Luke Baldacchino 

 

Luke Baldacchino is a freelance multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, and certified music educator. He regularly performs as a percussionist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and as a session musician with various artists and companies, both locally and abroad. Luke is Founder and Director of both The Tailors (an eclectic music-entertainment ensemble) and Ritmik (a music- education enterprise). Luke is committed towards the active involvement of persons with learning disabilities in the performing arts. He is actively involved with Opening Doors Association, and has been leading the Music Group since its birth. Luke holds a first class BA (Hons) in percussion performance, and a post-graduate certificate in music education (PGCE), both from the University of Malta.

About Nico Monaco 

 

Nicola Monaco started his training in dance at the age of 19 in Italy, where he studied contemporary and ballet. In 2001, he attended the professional course of Aterballetto under the direction of Mauro Bigonzetti. In 2003, Nicola had the opportunity to work for the award winning Dutch dance company Emio Greco/PC. He worked until 2008, touring their productions worldwide. He moved to London in 2009, where he had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Akram Khan, Gregory Maquoma, Tom Dale, The Featherstonehaughs and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company. In 2012, he was appointed as Rehearsal Director for Zfin Malta Dance Ensemble. Nicola has been working with Akram Khan Company since 2013 and has toured internationally with productions such as iTMOi, Kaash (Revival) and XENOS. In 2019, he was appointed as Assistant Choreographer for Chotto Xenos directed by Sue Buckmaster. In his role with AKC, he restaged Company repertory for Stuttgart Ballet, Stanislavsky Theatre, Introdans and IT Dansa. Nicola also holds the official qualification to teach the Double Skin/Double Mind methodology of ICK/Amsterdam (Emio Greco/PC).

Before attending any movement sessions under the umbrella of ZfinMalta’s Education and Participation programme, we require you hand in a signed copy of our participation form. It can be handed over to the Education Artist in hard copy or sent in soft copy to martina.d.zammit@zfinmalta.mt

Organiser/Promoter/Venue (“Organiser”) Terms and Conditions

In addition to those terms and conditions outlined below by ShowsHappening, any attendee of the Event agrees that:
  • A valid ticket must be produced to get into an Event. Removing any part, altering or copying the ticket may invalidate your ticket.
  • You acknowledge that the Organiser may, where necessary add, withdraw or substitute artists and/or vary advertised programmes, event times, seating arrangements and audience capacity. Such changes should not be material changes to the event and shall occur either due to instructions by authorities, unavailability of the artists or due to other reasons beyond the Organiser’s control. This will not prejudice any rights you may have for a refund.
  • If the Event is rescheduled or moved to another date, the Organiser will give you the options of either retaining or exchanging your tickets for the new date/location or a refund. If the Event is cancelled, you may be offered the option to transfer your ticket to a future event or a refund on your tickets. Please note that any Booking Fees and/or Transaction Fees are not refundable in these circumstances.
  • If the Event is rescheduled, changed, moved or cancelled the Organiser cannot be held responsible for any resulting costs you may incur for travel, accommodation and other related goods, services or compensation.
  • Tickets cannot be resold for commercial gain. If the Organiser has reason to believe that tickets have been re-sold for such purposes, they may be invalidated, and the holder will be refused admission.
  • For the safety of people at the Event, the Organiser reserves the right to refuse admission and conduct security searches as they deem appropriate.
  • The Organiser shall not be responsible for any loss, damage, death or injury howsoever caused unless (i) the relevant party has breached its legal obligations; and (ii) such loss or damage is a direct and reasonably foreseeable result of the breach. For the avoidance of doubt, the Organiser will not be responsible for the actions of any third party, including, but not limited to, the exhibitors or performers.
  • If all or any of the Event is planned to take place outdoors it will take place regardless of weather conditions unless deemed unsafe by the safety officer. Whilst every attempt shall be made to secure a replacement indoor venue, there shall be no refunds for bad weather if the event takes place.
  • The Organiser does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage to personal property brought to the Event.
  • Attendees may be filmed, photographed or sound recorded for broadcast, publication or security purposes whilst at the Event by the Organiser which shall include sponsors and other partners authorized by the Organiser.
  • Video and sound recordings are not permitted in theatrical and performance areas of the Event unless written permission is provided by the Organiser.
  • In accordance with the law, visitors aged under 17 are not permitted to purchase/sample alcoholic drinks.
  • The relevant Maltese law will apply to these Terms and Conditions and Courts of Malta will have exclusive jurisdiction in relation to the Terms and Conditions. ShowsHappening Terms and Conditions

  • You acknowledge that ShowsHappening is a booking platform and is not authorised to issue refunds unless instructed to do so by the Organiser/Promoter/Venue. In the case of a refund being issued for tickets bought, refund will be issued on the ticket face value (excluding booking fee or charge). If you opted for a Refundable Booking the terms and conditions found at refundable.me/extended/en shall apply.
  • You acknowledge that ShowsHappening provides a payment method where payment is collected on behalf of the Organiser/Promoter/Venue as duly authorised, however your contractual relationship other than for the booking fee and the service we offer shall be with the Organiser/Promoter/Venue. ShowsHappening is not responsible for the organisation or staging of the Event and has no control over the cancellation or rescheduling of or for material changes to any Event.
  • ShowsHappening shall provide you with all information and any changes to your ticket as soon as reasonably possible.
  • By completing a purchase, you are confirming that you have read any specific terms and conditions which the Organiser/Promoter/Venue has issued with regard to this event.
  • All tickets or passes should be checked on purchase. Whilst every effort shall be made mistakes cannot always be rectified. Accordingly, please check your Tickets carefully on receipt and contact us immediately if there is a mistake.
  • ShowsHappening is not responsible for the actions or failures of any Organiser/Promoter/Venue. Under no circumstances shall we be liable for death, personal injury, loss or damage to property suffered by you or your guests arising out of attendance at an Event, unless caused by our negligence
  • In the event of any inconsistency with the terms of the Organiser/Promoter/Venue, those of ShowsHappening shall prevail.
  • Information is collected from those registering with www.showshappening.com in order to facilitate ticket purchase or other services available. This information is collected and used in accordance with ShowsHappening's Privacy Policy, which forms part of these conditions.
