performance. Tango Passion Night invites you on an electrifying musical journey where the sensual

rhythms of Argentina meet the sophistication of chamber music.


Performed by an outstanding ensemble of piano, violin, double bass, percussion, and accompanied by

a captivating tango dance couple, this concert brings the dramatic world of tango to life through a

powerful acoustic performance. No electronics, no backing tracks, just the raw energy and emotion of

live music and dance.


From the golden age of traditional tango to the revolutionary sound of nuevo tango, the programme

celebrates the genius of legendary composers including Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, Gerardo

Matos Rodríguez, Osvaldo Pugliese, Ángel Villoldo and Isaac Albéniz, masters who shaped the

unmistakable sound and emotion of tango.


The music moves between fiery virtuosity, haunting lyricism, and irresistible dance rhythms in a

world where nostalgia, drama, and romance intertwine.


The Musicians


Maria-Elena Farrugia – Piano

Maria-Elena Farrugia is an established Maltese pianist who has won several local and international

competitions, including the EPTA (Malta) Competition and the Gianluca Campochiaro Competition

in Sicily. Her success also led to masterclasses at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester,

where she performed as a soloist and in chamber ensembles.She holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music and aFirst Class Honours Bachelor of Music from the University of Malta. Maria-Elena performs regularly

in Malta and the UK at venues and events such as the Presidential Palace, Manoel Theatre and the

Malta International Arts Festival.


Heorhii Vasyliev - Violin

A virtuoso violinist celebrated for his luminous tone and expressive phrasing. A graduate of leading

European conservatories, Heorhii has performed across Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech

Republic, and Switzerland. His artistry bridges the classical tradition with contemporary repertoire,

making him a captivating soloist and chamber musician.


Rostyslav Hirnyk - Double bass

Known for the warmth, depth, and sophistication of his sound, Rostyslav brings unique richness to

every performance. His career includes collaborations with international chamber ensembles,

appearances at festivals across Europe, and projects that span from classical symphonic repertoire to

modern crossover. His double bass playing adds both grounding resonance and lyrical elegance to the

trio.


Eduardo Machado – Percussion

Eduardo Machado is a Portuguese percussionist who graduated as a top student from the National

Academy of Advanced Orchestral Studies in Lisbon and the Lisbon School of Music.

He has performed with leading ensembles including the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Portuguese

Symphony Orchestra and the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra. Eduardo was also a member of the

European Union Youth Orchestra and currently serves as Principal Percussionist with the Malta

Philharmonic Orchestra.


Special Guest Argentine Tango Dancers

Adding a striking visual dimension to the evening, a professional couple of Argentine tango dancers

will perform selected pieces throughout the concert. Their expressive choreography and captivating

stage presence will embody the passion, tension, and romance that define Argentine tango,

transforming the music into a living, breathing story.


An evening where music dances, hearts beat faster, and tango tells its timeless story.
