Description

ANTHONY ROTHER :

Anthony Rother was described as an influential visionary, an electro pioneer and one of electronic music’s most prolific producers. For more than two decades Rother aggregated a vast musical canon that reflects his unique career as a sound researcher exploring the aesthetics far beyond the boundaries of electro, techno and pop music. Starting his recording career in the late ‘80s, the Offenbach-based producer established himself in Germany’s electronic music scene with his first two releases, "Sex With The Machines" (1997) and "Simulationszeitalter" (2000). In 1998, he founded his label Psi49Net, allowing him to keep his artistic independence and showcase his vision of electro music that cultivated a unique storytelling approach, guided by dystopian future visions on societal changes due to technological progress. The vocoder-driven vocals and the dark dystopian synth sound with machine-like beats have become Rother’s trademarks, even before he found international recognition as a science-fiction avant-gardist with the virtual electro-pop project "Little Computer People" (2001) and his 3rd solo LP "Hacker" (2002). In 2004, Rother created the Datapunk imprint to evolve an immediate, more song-orientated language that used simple melodies and even autobiographic anecdotes collected on "Popkiller." Perceived as one of his most venturous endeavors, yet his sonic shift had a decisive effect on many artists' careers: The Hacker, Boys Noise and Terence Fixmer published on Datapunk in its early days. While some of the experimental ambient recordings for Pete Namlook’s infamous label Fax +49-69/450464 reflects Rother’s prolific output, he also worked and co-produced with several prominent artists such as from former Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos, Sven Väth and DJ Hell. After its success, Datapunk turned into an enlarging business which devoured both time and creativity to make music. In 2013, Rother decided to let the project rest and took a break that he used to move his studio while only producing music for his HYBRID-Sets. Through his selfcontemplative retreat, he eventually rediscovered the artistic instincts that brought him back to his roots; both in terms of his renewed independence as well as how he channels creativity as a producer. In late 2017, Rother resurfaced with an EP on Danny Daze’s Omnidisc and contributed the track "Technic Electric" to Fabric 96 mix by DVS1. Last year, Rother returned to his Psi49Net label with a new album "3L3C7RO COMMANDO" that transports a clear message: Anthony Rother not only lives in and through his pure electro music, he still has something to say – here and now. The past represents the future! In April 2019, Rother will release two 12’’ on DVS1’s Mistress Recordings followed by another EP as well as a conceptual LP for Psi49Net in fall. Moreover, Rother will drop a 12-inch on Radio Slave’s Rekids offshoot Stranger In The Night.

BLOODY MARY:

Bloody Mary is an internationally renowned Producer, Live Act, DJ and Label Owner of Dame-Music, and resident of Tresor Berlin. A staple in the world-wide techno scene for more than a decade; the French artist’s name is easily recognizable to fans the world over, having produced a string of highly-acclaimed releases on wellknown labels over the years, such as Ovum, Missile and U-TRAX to name a few. Her distinct production style is heavily influenced by the raw, hardware-based sounds of the 90s, citing acid legends like Josh Wink, DJ Pierre, Freddy Fresh, Tim Taylor, Hardfloor & Thomas P. Heckmann as some of her biggest influences during her formative years. Fast forward to today, and it’s these exact producers she can be found regularly featuring alongside on the same vinyl releases. It’s therefore no surprise that she’s often called upon to share her knowledge and expertise around the world. Whether it’s being invited by the Goethe Institute to give production workshops in Mongolia, or being hand-picked by Roland to talk about their illustrious 303 at ADE in Amsterdam, her unique approach to music making and years of experience spent honing her craft have allowed her to constantly travel the globe for over a decade. In 2019, she was chosen to make an official remix of Phuture’s classic “Acid Track”, which went on to be widely acclaimed. In the same year, she launched her solo live act; making her debut at her home base, Tresor Berlin. Pandemic aside, 2020 showed no signs of slowing down: her 10 minute “Against The Clock” dropped on FACT Magazine’s YouTube channel, which continues to receive outstanding feedback to this day. She shared the cover of Future Music Magazine alongside Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin, amongst others. The magazine also ran a 7 page studio feature with her, going in depth about her favorite gear and production techniques. In the same year, her label Dame-Music celebrated its 10 year anniversary, releasing music from artists like Lady Starlight, Schacke, Tin Man, DeFeKT and more. In August 2021, she launched her brand new live set on Hör Radio, full of fresh material she’d been working on during lockdown. This was followed by her debut performance at Berlin’s esteemed annual synthesizer convention, Superbooth. She also contributed a track to the infamous Berlin queer techno collective Gegen’s 10 year anniversary V/A; a party where she’s been performing regularly for many years. In Summer 2022, she performed at Berlin’s re-incarnation of the Love Parade (under the new name Rave The Planet), and was invited to host her Dame-Music label showcase as part of Tresor’s 31 year anniversary festival. Bloody Mary’s unique musical taste and elegant on-stage presence have seen her feature at festivals such as Movement Detroit, Piknic Electronik, CRSSD, Epizode Vietnam, Rainbow Serpent, ADE, Sonar and WMC Miami. She has also graced the decks of world-renowned clubs like Fabric London, Space Ibiza & Miami, Panorama Bar / Berghain Berlin, Khidi Tbilisi, Smart Bar Chicago, Fabrik Madrid, Shelter Amsterdam, Basement NY, alongside her residency at Berlin techno institution, Tresor. Accomplishments aside, it’s Bloody Mary’s unique vision, unrivalled passion, and dedication to her art that has kept the fire burning for her over all these years, and will no doubt continue to do so for many years to come.
