Beethoven and Brahms feature side by side under the baton of Principal Conductor Brian Schembri, with renowed soloists Jimabn Wee and Kirill Rodin joining the orchestra to perform Johannes Brahms' Double Concerto in A minor. Composed in the summer of 1887, the double concerto is Brahm's final work for orchestra.

Beethoven's Third Symphony, completed in early 1804, was originally written for Napoleon Bonaparte, who he initially beleived embodied the democratic and anti-monarchical ideas of the french revolution. But Bonaparte's decision to proclaim himself Emperor that same year lost him the admiration of the composer, who dramatically renamed it "Sinfonia Eroica," or Heroic Symphony.

In contrast to Beethoven, Maltese-born composer Nicolas Isouard, who left Malta with the french and settled in Paris, remained a loyal |Buonapartist. The overture to his opera "Joconde," edited by Richard Divall, will open this concert.
