Description
Welcome to Acts of Creation
We are proud to present Acts of Creation, a final showcase of original performance work by emerging artists in the field of Performing Arts in collaboration with Spazzju Kreattiv and MCAST. This event marks the culmination of months of rigorous research, creative exploration, and collaborative development. Each piece you will witness tonight is the result of an intensive artistic process—shaped through rehearsal, critical feedback, and bold risk-taking.
This programme represents completed works, carefully refined and fully realised for public presentation. These performances reflect our artistic voices and demonstrate our ability to craft narratives that merge technical skill with emotional depth, offering stories that resonate with today’s complex world.
Throughout this programme, you will encounter a wide spectrum of performance styles—from reimagined classics to devised theatre, operatic storytelling, dance, multimedia integration, and comedy. These works are bound by a shared commitment to innovation, authenticity, and expressive truth. Whether exploring the trauma of war, questions of identity and belonging, or the absurdities of daily life, each piece invites you into a world constructed with care, intention, and artistry.
We thank our mentors, lecturers, and the broader professional community for your guidance and support. Your feedback during our earlier development stages has helped shape the work you are about to experience. We now invite you not into a rehearsal room, but into a theatre space where these pieces stand boldly on their own—ready to speak, challenge, entertain, and move.
Programme Highlights
Elinette
Created, Directed, and Performed by Mariaconcetta Calafiore
A vibrant theatrical journey inspired by operatic heroines Musetta and Norina, Elinette fuses the expressive traditions of classical opera with modern theatrical flair. Rooted in the philosophies of Jacques Copeau—play, authenticity, and emotional truth—this performance weaves together Puccini’s Quando men vo and Donizetti’s Quel guardo il cavaliere in a captivating display of vocal brilliance, character, and imagination.
Reignited: Rocking Maltese Classic Songs
Performed by Malcolm Caruana-Dingli
A bold reimagining of Maltese music heritage, this audiovisual performance breathes new life into two beloved songs from the 60s and 70s—Riviera Blu and Viva Malta—through a rock-inspired reinterpretation. Blending nostalgia with innovation, Malcolm showcases his multi-instrumental talents and presents an original composition that celebrates cultural legacy while pushing sonic boundaries.
The King – A Modern War Reimagining of Henry V
Created and Performed by Luke Chappell
Set against the backdrop of contemporary warfare, The King offers a powerful reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Henry V. Through modern military aesthetics, live-stream projections, and wartime imagery echoing today’s global conflicts, this piece probes the ethical turmoil of leadership, conquest, and human cost. With a haunting finale, the performance leaves us questioning what victory truly means.
The Illuminious Dances
Choreographed and Performed by [Performer’s Name]
A mesmerising blend of classical ballet and cutting-edge lighting design, The Illuminious Dances bridges tradition and innovation. The performance highlights the elegance and discipline of classical dance while infusing it with modern visual artistry, inviting audiences into a world where movement and light coalesce to form a breathtaking sensory experience.
Toilet Break
Performed by [Performer’s Name]
Closing the programme with laughter and levity, Toilet Break is a high-energy solo performance that captures the chaos of a simple situation gone spectacularly wrong. Following Doop, a determined employee whose day takes a comedic turn just moments before a long-awaited promotion, this piece delights in its physical humour, rapid pacing, and sharp observational comedy.
Thank you for joining us for Acts of Creation. We hope you are inspired by the dedication, talent, and vision of each artist featured tonight. This showcase not only represents the end of a chapter—it signals the beginning of new creative journeys beyond this stage.
