Description

Malta’s demographic landscape is changing rapidly. Longer life expectancy, shifting family structures, workforce pressures and increasing care needs are reshaping how we think about ageing and our collective responsibility.

To prepare for these changes, the Government has introduced the National Strategic Policies for Active Ageing and Dementia Care, alongside the National Standards for Care Homes for Older Persons. This conference looks ahead to what must come next.

Organised by Healthmark and the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations–Malta (INIA), A Caring Nation will bring together policymakers, healthcare leaders, academics, carers, and community voices to discuss how Malta can strengthen, modernise and humanise its ageing services.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with international and national experts, including:

  • Ms Amal Abou Rafeh, Chief of the Programme on Ageing, Department of Economic Affairs and Ageing, United Nations (New York)
  • Dr Patrick Barbara, Consultant Psychiatrist, Ministry for Health and Active Ageing
  • Mr Chris Meilak, an EY economist offering insights into the financial, workforce and societal realities we can expect in the coming decades

The conference will also feature a special panel on Intergenerational Solidarity: Past, Present, Future bringing together voices from across generations, from university students to older adults, for an honest conversation about connection, responsibility and community.

In addition, selected academics will present papers from a national call for contributions on active ageing, rights-based care, innovation and the future of ageing services in Malta.

Don’t miss this opportunity to help shape the systems, services and values that will define Malta’s future as a caring nation.

Sponsors for the conference include HLL, National Insurance Brokers, Medina Health, Jamesco and the Maltese Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.
