The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Mro. Michael Laus presents a tour de force programme featuring two national premiers composed by Dmitri Shostakovich and Arthur Honegger, featuring Greek pianist Konstantinos Destounis. The programme also includes compositions by Maltese composers and Beethoven’s 6th Symphony, known as the Pastoral Symphony.

Description

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), under the baton of Mro. Michael Laus presents a tour de force programme with two national premieres: “Piano Concerto No. 2” (1957) by Dmitri Shostakovich featuring Greek pianist Konstantinos Destounis and “Pacific 231” (1923) by Arthur Honegger - both considered to be seminal works of the 20th century. The first half of the programme includes two compositions by Maltese composers: “Elegy” by Christopher Muscat and “The Forbidden” by Ruben Zahra. The second half of the programme is dedicated to Beethoven's 6th Symphony, known as the Pastoral Symphony. Set in five movements, this is one of Beethoven’s most popular works, filled with beautiful melodies with each movement depicting a different scene from nature.

This event is organised by Festivals Malta as part of the Malta International Arts Festival. This event is in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

You acknowledge that ShowsHappening provides a payment method where payment is collected on behalf of the Organiser/Promoter/Venue as duly authorised, however your contractual relationship other than for the booking fee and the service we offer shall be with the Organiser/Promoter/Venue. ShowsHappening is not responsible for the organisation or staging of the Event and has no control over the cancellation or rescheduling of or for material changes to any Event.
ShowsHappening shall provide you with all information and any changes to your ticket as soon as reasonably possible.
By completing a purchase, you are confirming that you have read any specific terms and conditions which the Organiser/Promoter/Venue has issued with regard to this event.
