DOMINIC GALEA JEZTET
 - 8.00PM

AMBLERS is celebrating the ninetieth anniversary of composer and pianist Sammy Galea (1934-2021). These compositions were written in the 1960s and 1970s and are exposed for the first time through this album. AMBLERS is a set of works inspired by modern classical and post bop jazz idioms, contemporary at the  time he composed them. Although he kept a low profile in the jazz field, his compositions were innovative and fill a lacuna in the History of Jazz in Malta.

Dominic Galea: Piano
Alan Barnes: Alto Saxopohne/Clarinet
Oliver Degabriele: Double Bass
Clark Tracey: Drums

WALTER SMITH III QUARTET - 9.00PM
Walter Smith's journey into music began early, marked by a memorable McDonald's gig in Houston. Despite humble beginnings, he's acclaimed as a skilled performer, composer, and educator. His album "In Common III" garnered praise for its innovation, featuring luminaries like Matt Stevens and Dave Holland. With a storied career spanning legendary groups and global stages, Smith continues to inspire as Chair of Woodwinds at Berklee College of Music.

SOMETHING ELSE - A SOUL JAZZ REVUE - 10.30PM

Something Else! is a Soul Jazz revue led by Vincent Herring, a septet with a rotating lineup that features, in Vincent’s word, ‘the best musicians playing great music and enjoying it thoroughly, which becomes infectious’. The band play new arrangements of classics of the Soul Jazz genre (think Freddie Hubbard, George Benson, Horace Silver, Bobby Timmons…) plus original compositions in the same style. Something Else! shows are rich with soulful, funky, great improvisation that are hugely enjoyable for audiences.

JES PSAILA - THE HINGE PROJECT- 8.00PM

Guitarist and composer Jes Psaila, after previous projects, formed The Hinge Project, an instrumental fusion quartet captivating audiences with dynamic compositions blending jazz, rock, and catchy melodies. Their self-titled album, recorded in October 2019, showcased their genre-defying sound, culminating in a milestone album launch in October 2021. In 2023, "Causatum" continued their musical journey, unveiling new compositions alongside familiar tracks, celebrated at the Campus Theatre in Valletta.

TRIO GRANDE - 9.00PM

Trio Grande is bigger than the average trio: Nate Wood is perhaps the only person in the world able to play at a dazzling level on both drums and bass at the same time. Saxophonist Will Vinson doubles on keyboards and guitarist Gilad Hekselman is renowned for his ability to weave contrapuntal lines across the range of his instrument (and beyond). Together, the three deliver a sound as big and broad as a group twice its size.

CHIEF ADJUAH - 10.30PM

Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, formerly Christian Scott, is a Grammy-nominated musician, composer, and producer. Mentored by jazz icon Donald Harrison Jr., Adjuah's career spans twelve acclaimed studio albums and pioneering the "Stretch Music" genre. His impact extends beyond music, championing social causes and revolutionizing brass instrument design worldwide.
