Description

The Kyiv Virtuosi Orchestra will be returning to the stage of the Robert Samut Hall in Florian on the 20th of June, accompanied by Maltese pianist, and 2018 Malta Eurovision Young Musicians Winner, Bernice Sammut Attard. Performing under Grammy-nominated conductor Dmitry Yablonsky, the orchestra will first present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Adagio and Fugue in C minor, a short work in two sections with an ominous and foreboding Adagio, followed by a comparatively refreshing fuge section which lifts the tone of the work. Next, Sammut Attard shall join the orchestra for a rendition of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23, specially arranged for chamber orchestra. While exemplifying the composer’s trademark blend of lighthearted joy and profound beauty, the 23rd concerto also brings a uniquely dark and gothic substance to the table, with its second movement in particular introducing a melancholic undertone which stays with the listener throughout the rest of the piece. The Kyiv Virtuosi shall then bring the evening to a close with Antonín Dvořák's joyful and lighthearted Serenade for Strings in E major. Composed across just two weeks in 1875, the work has cemented its place as one of Dvořák's most popular orchestral compositions and reflects a halcyon period in the composer’s life, with its five movements each bringing with them an optimistic tone, enriched by the composer’s rich melodies and unparalleled craftsmanship.

This concert is being organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
