The Grand Finale of the 2021 ‘InClassica’ Malta International Music Festival features a premiere of a concert by contemporary composer Alexey Shor who often uses extra-musical inspirations for his music. Shor's Violin Concerto in B-minor is played by Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich. Pyotr Tchaikovsky chose Shakespeare's immortal play “Romeo and Juliet” to write an “Overture-Fantasy” that introduces the audience to the most important characters and situations of the drama and inspired many other musicians with its longing romanticism and beautiful melodies. Mussorgsky's „Pictures at an exhibition“ was inspired by the art of painting. As if he was painting with music, the composer recreates pictures of his friend Viktor Hartmann, who had died unexpectedly at the age of only 39. Originally written for piano, the colourful and imaginative masterpiece lead several composers to orchestrate them.
