Description

Philip Glass’s entrancing Double Concerto for violin, cello and orchestra was first performed in 2010 and soon entered the repertoire mainstream, attracting musicians and audiences alike with its sweeping themes and rhythmic clarity. The world-renowed Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer is joined by another outstanding artist from the Baltic States, Giedre Dirvanauskaite, in a score that propels the listener on a thrilling journey into Glass’s creative universe. Sergey Smbatyan and the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate offer a compelling complement to the American composer’s score in the form of Dvorák’s Sixth Symphony. Written within the space of seven weeks in the late summer and autumn of 1880, the Czech composer’s score ranks among his most inspired and lyrical symphonic works.
