The MPO presents a chamber music concert celebrating Ástor Piazzolla.

Originally classically-trained, the foremost composer of tango music retained the dance’s essential spirit whilst introducing dissonance, chromatic harmony and a wide array of rhythms. Fusing elements of jazz and classical music, particularly Bartók and Stravinsky, Piazzolla achieved a rare symbiosis between composed and improvised elements, which gives his music distinct individuality.
Internationally-acclaimed pianist Wayne Marshall leads the quintet, a versatile ensemble featuring flute, bandoneon, guitar, contrabass and piano, in this musical journey reflecting the composer’s innermost feelings.

This concert is presented with the support of the Marriot Malta Hotel & Spa.
