The MPO chamber concert features a riveting programme of twentieth century music in the Neo-Gothic Robert Samut Hall as Resident Conductor Michael Laus takes on the dual role of director and soloist in Martinů’s Harpsichord Concerto, a delightful work in French neo-classical style.

Schnittke’s Hymns reflect his distinctive polystylistic technique, from the sombre mood of Hymn III to the percussive rhythmic elements of Hymn IV.

Originally composed as ballet, Copland’s rearranged orchestral suite Appalachian Spring transports the audience to the American country life with his touching depiction.
